Since U.P’s inception, we’ve been blessed with some wonderful friends who’ve helped us elevate our efforts to new heights through their invaluable contributions and support.

eBay Green Team

Formed in 2007, the eBay Green Team is a grassroots initiative launched by a group of eBay employees who wanted to make their company a greener place to work. They’ve grown from small actions such as eliminating Styrofoam cups in break rooms to much grander efforts like encouraging eBay to build large solar installations at their San Jose, California headquarters. The eBay GT has supported U.P from very early on, working with us on multiple fund boosting initiatives during Sheena’s 365 day challenge. Through their assistance alone, over 40k was raised for Akanksha. During the U.P Pilot Series, GT continued to support U.P through vintage accessory donations for each pilot. The Green Team also hosted an interview series with Sheena and the Pilots which was syndicated monthly for HuffPost Style during each Pilot’s challenge. >

Payless Shoe Source

As part of their new partnership with sustainability consultant (and recent U.P pilot) Summer Rayne Oakes, Payless Shoe Source came on board as our March 2011 corporate sponsor, pledging to match every dollar raised up to 10k. The results were extraordinary and Summer raised over 12k in funds for our cause of the month, charity: water. In addition, Payless extended special gifts for the donors, offering 50% off for shoes and accessories from Summer’s environmentally-preferable collection, named zoe&zac, that she developed exclusively for the brand. The Zoe&Zac collection has been designed to leave a smaller footprint uses materials such as organic cotton, hemp, jute, recycled rubber, nickel-free harware, faux suede, faux leather, faux patent and elastic & laces made from recycled plastic >

StudyNY is the brainchild of Tara St. James, a dear friend of U.P and one of our earliest supporters. Sheena wore many an accessory donation from this high-concept label, quickly making Tara an integral part of the Uniform Project story. Tara eventually joined the team as our fashion lead and production head, designing most of the LBDs worn by our Pilots. StudyNY is acknowledged as one of the most promising sustainable labels and Tara recently won the coveted Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation award for sustainable design at NYFW ’11. A strong and driving presence among young ethical designers, Tara lends her talent and skills to various organizations aside from U.P, notably the Awamaki Lab, a program that fosters cross-cultural partnerships between young designers and Peru’s Awamaki indigenous weaver collective. >

An annual event that brings together young emerging artists from around the world, ARTISIT helps new talent begin their professional careers, and in turn showcases some of the most exciting art currently being created. The platform’s principal, Mary Nally, is a true cosmopolitan and an international connoisseur of the art and fashion worlds. Yet another avid U.P supporter and a diehard believer in our mission, Mary’s impeccable taste and organizational prowess came as a great benefit to us. She introduced U.P to some of the hottest sustainable brands in London, Reykjavík, Paris, and New York, whose donated accessories were very often the hit features on U.P dailies. Taking ARTISIT? one step further, this year will see the launch of ARTISIT? +, and effort to support and showcase artists in every stage of their practice, as a series of ongoing multidisciplinary showcases with a variety of curators in numerous cities worldwide. >

Darcey Howard

A devotee of good branding, entrepreneurship and social consciousnesses, as well as a teacher, guide, speaker and style enthusiast, Darcey is something like a strategic guru. After 16 years of brand marketing for the apparel industry, Darcey decided to apply her insights towards her own projects. And in 2004 she launched LifeStyled Ltd., creating the philosophy behind “Personal Branding Through Appearance™”—an approach to personal style development and She also developed “The Solopreneur Success Program” to coach business owners who wanted to become stronger entrepreneurs. After moving to NYC, Darcey followed U.P from nearly Day 1 eventually coming on board in the Fall of 2010 to help guide us into our next chapter. And now that she’s become a crucial part of the team, we can’t imagine the U.P without her knowledge, leadership and enthusiasm. >

If you have seen any of the U.P movies, you know what Bricolagista! can do with good ideas, hard work and little to no money. The U.P 365 Day Picture Book received well over a million hits on vimeo thanks to the mad filmmaking prowess of Monihan Monihan, the brain and hands behind this subterranean filmmaking collective. Since creating our first U.P movie trailer, Bricolagista! has volunteered invaluable hours to every U.P media campaign, contributing with film production, editing and writing. Their first feature film is coming out soon as well, so you’ll certainly be hearing more about Bricolagista and Monihan in the near future. >
